Euxton Hall Chapel

Euxton Hall Chapel can be found situated in the small rural village of Euxton, in Lancashire, England. Built in 1866, this once private chapel of the Anderton Family, was designed by the famous architect E.W. Pugin. Set within the grounds of Euxton Hall, and a Grade II Listed Building within its own right, the small gothic chapel has been described as an architectural gem. Both English Heritage and the Ancient Monuments Society acknowledge that it is one of the important works of this nationally famous Architect. The Victorian Society is also quick to recognise the buildings’ attractiveness and national
importance.

Of special interest is the large stained glass window manufactured by John Hardman, dated October 14, 1866, which is set in the west wall. It incorporates a dedication to Lady Emma Anderton and also the ‘Coat of Arms’ of the Anderton family, something repeated in the special floor tiles of the centre aisle. In recent years, the chapel has been painstakingly restored and tastefully converted into a private dwelling.
